What is your full name?
Ans: WURAOLA ABIRU
How old were you when you discovered you have talent in singing?
Ans: 13 yrs
What makes you choose rap among other genre?
Ans: I have always loved rap music.. I see rap music as the best way to express my feelings and views. Music is my dream but I see Rap as my calling(smiles)
The name BESSIE-GOLD (rap demon) How did it originate or what inspired you with the name?
Ans: BESSIE-GOLD is actually the combinations of my names BESSIE for (ABOSEDE) and GOLD for (WURA) and the inspiration behind it is that I want to carry the image of my both parents wherever I go.. My mum named me Abosede and my dad named me Wuraola hence my choice in the name.
What message do you pass with your rap music?
Ans: It depends on the inspiration behind each songs.. The message is always in the lyrics for those that actually listen to the songs deeply and not just dance to them.
You were born in a polygamous home, does that have any effect on you positively or negatively?
Ans: well, it has both the negative and positive effects on me I must confess.. because I wasn’t just born in a polygamous home, I was actually raised singlehandedly by my mum along side other siblings.. So it wasn’t easy and it negatively and positively affected me psychologically, emotionally maybe not physically though as my mum really did a great job raising us I must commend her.
who is your role model in Nigeria and abroad
Ans: For Nigeria its the late Dagrin.. Up till now I see him as a mentor even though he is late. For abroad, it’s Nikki Minaj
You graduated as a mass communication student from Lagos State Polytechnic, what impact does that add to your music career so far?
Ans: Well, being a communicator has really enhanced my mode of communication (rap music) coz music is also a means of communication.. So that means I am not just a communicator by talent (rap) I am a communicator by profession. Plus it has really boosted my stage coordination and performances. As a mass communicator u communicate with the heterogeneous public so as an artist It has been a great support for me, it has become a norms for me so it helps in building my confidence on stage and beyond.
where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Ans: I have this believe that the future is just an illusion, it’s never real because ya present actions and inaction determines what happen next, you can’t sit at home doing nothing and tell me someone foresaw that in ya future you would be a wealthy person.. That’s absurd, u work towards that to make it a reality. God ain’t a magician even though he does miracle but never magic. The real thing is FATE. so in d next five years judging from how in my little power I have been paving my way coupled with my not relenting self i should be featuring the beat artist abroad as at that time. In fact, I should be the next superstar to perform for the inmates in 2021 big brother naija. (Amen)
